To our
Chairman Mr. Irvin Khoza: Sir, here is what logic tells me: A team that
languishes at number 8 at the December break cannot and will not win the
league. So anyone who says to us that we should not worry because there are a
lot of games is in fact undermining our intelligence.
I say this
particularly because only the blind will not have realised by now that with the
type of football we play, whatever it is called, there is not even a slight
glimpse of potential for a winning team.
Well Mr.
Chairman, one does not require to be a rocket scientist to follow this basic
deductive reasoning to arrive at a conclusion that says, the Pirates team that
we saw in the past four to five league games, will not (1) defend the league
(2) win a single game in Africa and (3) win any of the remaining cups on
domestic roster.
This Mr.
Chairman means that for us, the Ghost, the season is over! Now tell me, given
the status quo at the club, and taking into consideration all the comments on
this wall above and others expressed in Churches, schools, offices, etc across
the country, why must we go to the stadium?
The team is
not only losing but playing boring football. Why must we renew or membership
for next season? There is nothing at all to convince us that things will change
for the better anytime soon. Why should we not fear being on the wrong end of
the league table?
There is
plenty of evidence to suggest that that may not be as far fetched as Leal and
Co will want us to believe. So Mr. Chairman here are my recommendations but
first, a prelude: when Kosta Papic tendered his "resignation" some of
us warned that the consequences would be bitter. Indeed they were.
When Ruud Krol's
contract was due to expire, I wrote that it would be a mistake not to renew it.
The truth is Mr. Chairman, and you can ask any competent HR functionary, Hiring
Krol was the best decision you had made in a long time. His professionalism and
track record spoke volumes. Leal on the other hand is the exact opposite.
Recommendation:
Bring in the changes now if you want to salvage something from the remainder of
the season. Other teams play to just be in the Premier Soccer League,
regardless of where they end up. It will be sad if Orlando Pirates joins that
list of teams. Current FACTS suggest that's exactly where we are. To think and
say let's wait and see is unacceptable.
