One really
needs to look at the basis for this lack of goals, and I SAY the fault is NOT
with our players but the area of blame lies with the COACHES and MEDIA.
Our
coaches, by 'our' I’m referring to any individual coaching in South Africa, native
or otherwise, have adopted or are trying valiantly to enforce the European
approach in our game, both tactically and technically.
For
example, the tactical formation of one striker is ineffective for 'diski'... you
look back at the days of Fani Madida, Shane McGregor, Daniel Mudau / Raphael
Chukwu, Collins Mbesuma / David Radebe, Sibusiso Zuma / Siyabonga Nomvethe, etc,
then you realise that, a twin combination is deadly and effective in South
Africa.
Then
technically, we’ve killed our flair, our sole strength, by trying to play this
direct European football… flair players bring creativity when coached
effectively, ask the late Scara Ngobese, Doctor Khumalo, Jabu “Shuffle” Pule,
Alex Bapela, Thulani Serero,
Zane Moosa etc... but we are throwing that away.
The problem
is that our media is vocally criticizing our own identity, in that process
making us feel inferior about our type of football...every Tom, D!ck and Pitso
Mosimane, will brag about a Uefa A coaching licence, forgetting that those
courses were created with a concept of coaching an European mentality...
We do have
an identity, whoever claims we don’t, is simply fooled by our incompetent and misleading
media... let’s go back to basics of our football and we shall reap the rewards.
