Orlando Pirates Awards

Written By Unknown on Friday, June 3, 2011 | Friday, June 03, 2011

I happened to be one of the privileged few Pirates supporters who happened to attend the OP awards last night (01/06/2011) at Birchwood hotel in Boksburg in the East Rand. The occasion took-off very well as expected as Thomas Mlambo was doing what he does best if given platform by entertaining us with his funny jokes.

It was during the end of the occasion that I got the disappointment of my life. After all the awards were presented, I could not contain my disappointment by the management of this team that I love dearly for failing to honor their supporters for the role that they played throughout the season. Robert Marawa has been calling for supporters to attend games in his show week in week out, yet you have this situation where a team that collected an amount close to 25 million failed to do the right thing, which is to appreciate supporter’s effort.

I was in pain when Thomas was closing the occasion as I was sitting next to this lady that I see everyday on TV when Pirates is playing. Surely, this lady was expecting as certain recognition from the team even though she didn’t say so to me. Without any material evidence, I can however, tell you that this lady is not in a well paying job if ever she is working, but she is able to sacrifice all her time to attend all Pirates games and she cant even get simple recognition from the team. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not campaigning for her or anybody but we should have seen supporters being recognition in a form of an award.

Can I remind our management that we go to the stadium because of the love we have for this team and not because they own us as supporters, therefore they should also recognize our support? Those guys that I usually see on TV wearing pink shirts from KZN also deserve recognition as well. I hope next season things will change.

Takalani stop this shwashwi, you were not invited remeber but became a part of a previlaged few. That was an incentive and instead of enjoying the moment you went there seeking something wrong. How about you as a good fan meet the needs of that Lady. I have transported fans and temporary staff back home for years and has never sought any recognition. Sometimes transportation is scarce and some people stay in the very outskirts but has never questioned them what were they thinking going to the game knowing no car ever goes that way. I have seen more guys buy food for littlle boys who go to the game with no transport money, no ticket, no food and nobody knew at home where they were. Some kids will make their way to Durban, Cape Town, Queens Town or anywhere their team play. We see these kids and know them because they never miss a game come lightning thunder or rain. You are talking one person but if truth be told we have too many people doing more good than your small eyes can see. We have people who wash nasty stinking players training kit have you ever heard they went to COSATU to report anything.

You must keep your inherited tribal gossip legacy. Even if something was given to this lady, I can gurantee you will have still had something to complain about. People dont always like handouts but had you ceased the moment and said to the lady "we at pirates love you so much". That alone could have meant so much to her. You are also right we do not own fans and also get it that those who do things at Pirates follow rules and guidelines. So your rules and guidelines do not exist at Pirates handbook but in your crack head. Your pproblem is counting how much money is shared that is not your business, this money came from sponsors and your went to securing and cleaning stadium. The players were going to work and they deserve every penny of it. Me and you were only there for fun that is why we get nothing. I assume you own a computer of which I strongly doubt but you have acess to one. Why dont you Takalani if you have a computer give it to this lady or also share your salary with her. Do not expect somebody to do what you are not willing to do. Why dont you Takalani confess that you invaded the pitch when we got fined recently and from your good heart send a little money to off set the verdict.
