Rosina Sedibane Modiba Sports School crowned 2013 COPA Coca-Cola National Champions

Gauteng based school – Rosina Sedibane Modiba Sports School were crowned the 2013 COPA Coca-Cola National Champions following an entertaining final against Kakamas High School from Northern Cape at Seawinds Sports Complex, Cape Town. 

Rosina Sedibane won 3-0, with goals scored by Lucky Mbatha, Nelson Maluleka and Kamobel Mahlatsi giving their school, the first COPA Coca-Cola National title. The Northern Cape based school, did not disgrace themselves, their exploits in the final will help to put football in the map within the province.

Their football has been in the doldrums but this performance is an encouragement that future stars from the province can play in the professional football set up. Rosina finished the tournament undefeated in six matches and only conceded just once.

Tikhontele Secondary School from Mpumalanga finished third, followed by Charles Morgan Senior Secondary School (Eastern Cape) in fourth place, Benny’s Care Sports Academy (Limpopo) in fifth place, Tshedimotsetso Secondary School (North West), Harmony High School (Free State) in seventh, Qhilika Secondary School (KwaZulu-Natal) in eighth and lastly Luckhoff Secondary School representing Western Cape.


 The top three schools walked away with prizes that will help develop their sporting facilities at their respective regions.

1st place
-          Gold Trophy
-          Gold Medals
-          R 30 000 towards sporting equipment for their school,
-          20 x COPA Coca-Cola Caps and T-Shirts for the team
-          PLUS R 3 00 worth of Kit for each player
-          PLUS an experience with the FIFA world Cup Trophy Tour in Johannesburg in December this year valued at R 100 000.

2nd place
-          Silver Trophy
-          Silver Medals
-          R 20 000 towards sporting equipment for their school
-          20 x COPA Coca-Cola Caps and T-Shirts for the team

3rd place
-          Bronze Trophy
-          Bronze Medals
-          R 10 000 towards sporting equipment for their school
-          20 x COPA Coca-Cola Caps and T-Shirts for the team

Individual awards went to the following players;
-          Goalkeeper of the tournament: - Mondli Mpoto
-          Player of the tournament: - Daweron Van Rhyn
-          Top goal scorer: - Nelson Maluleka
-          Goal of the tournament: - Bright Singwane

Coca-Cola also announced the four exceptional players, afforded with an the opportunity to represent South Africa at the 2014 COPA Coca-Cola® International Camp to be held in Brazil in June 2014.

-          Khulekani_Khubeka (Clapham High School - Gauteng) – Goalkeeper
-           Layanda Mdlalose (Sukuma Secondary School – Kwazulu-Natal) – Defender
-          Ndlozi Ndaba (School of Excellence - Gauteng) – Midfielder
-          Carl Van Rensburg (Sun Valley Secondary School – Western Cape) – Striker
