When
Bafana Bafana head coach Gordon Igesund named a 23-man squad to face Morocco in
an international friendly match, he included five uncapped players, namely
Kgosi Ntlhe, Kamogelo Mokotjo, Keagan Dolly, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Ayanda
Patosi.
Mokotjo
has since withdrawn from the squad due to an ankle injury.
But
the four remaining players are upbeat about being in the national team. One of
them is Bidvest Wits captain Vilakazi.
When
he was told about his inclusion into the squad for Morocco, Vilakazi was over
the moon.
“It
was a very exhausting trip from home to Agadir, but now that we are here and
having rested a bit I am very excited to be here with the boys. It is always
nice to be among the national team set up,” said Vilakazi.
“So
far I have had good interactions with most of the guys whom I know very well
from the PSL. Normally we are on opposite ends for our clubs, but it’s great to
be together for national duty. Hopefully, on Friday we are going to do the
job,” said Vilakazi.
His
roommate Dolly echoed his sentiments.
“We
have enjoyed ourselves so far in the camp. The spirit is just amazing and
overwhelming. It is good being here with the guys; I feel like I have been part
of the squad for a long time,” said Dolly of Ajax Cape Town.
Both
players are aware of the competition for places in the national team but added
they are ready to grab their chances should they be given an opportunity.
“Like
any other player, I am looking forward to the match on Friday. If I don’t play
it is still ok because just being here is fulfilling and a step in the right
direction. I am here to learn and get some experience and with time, I will
make some contribution,” said Dolly.
“I
would definitely love to get an opportunity against Morocco, but if it doesn’t
happen I will still be excited to have been a part of this group and will look
forward to the future. Given an opportunity I will make good use of it,”
concluded Vilakazi.
Bafana
Bafana face the Lions of the Atlas on Friday, 11 October 2013 in Agadir City in
Morocco.
