The
Premier Soccer League (PSL) CEO, Brand de Villiers has congratulated Orlando
Pirates for reaching the semi-final stages of the CAF Champions League.
Orlando
Pirates managed a 0-0 draw against Egyptian giants, Al Ahly to negotiate a
narrow passage to the CAF Champions League last four phase following what was a
suspense-filled last day of the Group stages on Sunday, 22 September 2013.
“I
would like to congratulate Orlando Pirates for advancing this far in the CAF
Champions League. Their bravery and brilliant performance has been rewarded. As
the PSL, we are proud to have a club waving the South African flag in the
Champions League semi-finals,” De Villiers said.
The
PSL CEO was amongst those who travelled to Orlando Stadium to watch Orlando
Pirates labour against Al Ahly in the crucial group stage fixture.
De
Villiers continued: “Like many South Africans, I was very impressed with what I
saw at Orlando Stadium even though we had many nervous moments during the game.
Now that they are in the semis and having achieved some impressive results in
the group stages, Orlando Pirates understand there is still a job to be done.
We are confident that they will be prepared for the task ahead and will
continue to prosper in this competition. We hope they will continue doing South
Africa proud.”
