Knysna gears itself for the Thabo September U16 Tournament

The Knysna area is known for its breath-taking sea-side resorts, but next week football will be the centre of attention when SuperSport United defender, Thabo September hosts the annual Thabo September U16 Tournament.

The Thabo September U16, which features 16 teams from the Knynsa, George, Mosel Bay and surrounding areas in the Southern-Western Cape, will be played between 22 and 23 June 2013 at the Lorie Park Stadium in Knysna.

The tournament is the brainchild of the SuperSport United defender, Thabo September who hails from the same area.

September said: “I’m really looking forward to this year’s tournament. The event has been growing in stature every year and I’m exciting about this project. As many people know, we do not have a professional football side here in Knynsa and the youngsters from this area need to have something to aspire towards; they need an opportunity to showcase their talent and this tournament provides such a platform.”

Already, two youngsters were discovered by Absa Premiership side, SuperSport United last year. They are now part of the development structures at SuperSport.

September said he came up with the concept after realising that there was a need for an event of this nature. “Basically, I saw a need and I decided to do something about it. I might not have much but I believe that with the little that I have, I can make a meaningful contribution to my community. We have to produce more footballers in this region,” September added.
