Women in line to grab MTN8 Last Fan Standing title

In continuous celebration of Woman’s month, female football followers have raised their hands to be counted as the competition for the MTN8 Last Fan Standing for the 2012 tournament gathers momentum, with two women in line to win the big prize on the 22nd September.

Nomsa Khoza and Nomathamsaqa Portia Bafo, two die-hard supporters of the beautiful game, were randomly drawn as the first two of eight finalists of the MTN Last Fan Standing. The other six finalists will be selected over the next weeks leading to up the final of the MTN8 on the   22nd September 2012. The journey to becoming the Last Fan Standing began when the sms lines opened to enter the competition at the start of the tournament in early August.

Both ladies, who are based in Johannesburg, revealed their astonishment at being selected as the finalists of the competition that will see the Last Fan Standing and ultimate South African Fan rewarded with the most incredible life-changing prize to watch the El Clásico derby in Spain during the 2012/13 season and get R1 million in cash.

“I could not sleep owing to excitement when I was informed of my selection as a finalist by MTN8. During the first round of this season’s MTN8 I saw details of the Last Fan Standing competition at halftime on television and I tried my luck,” said Nomsa Khoza from Hullingham near Sandton.

Nomathamsanqa Portia Bafo, who hails from Soweto and was only alerted about the competition by her colleague, was equally elated at being a finalist. “I’m thrilled at this opportunity to win the big MTN8 fan prize and it will be a bonus should both my team, Orlando Pirates and I, be crowned champions come the of the tournament,” she said.

Once all eight finalists have been determined, they will participate in a football trivia quiz to determine who this year’s winner will be.

MTN8 has gained popularity with the Last Fan Standing (LFS) competition, a franchise within the tournament that has become a feature landscape for South African football fans during the tournament.

To stand a chance to win, fans will have to recharge with a minimum of R10 airtime, opt-in to the competition by dialing *186*8#. By doing so, fans will be automatically entered into a weekly draw to be selected as one of the weekly finalists to as well go into the final playoffs for the prize.

The competition will run until the 8th September with the ultimate Last Fan Standing announced on the day of the MTN8 Final on the 22nd September.
