United have launched the new KAPPA playing kit for the 2012-2013 Premier Soccer
League (PSL) season in Polokwane on Tuesday.
The
launch, that involved both the first team and the youth development academy,
took place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup venue Peter Mokaba Stadium and was graced
by the Executive Mayor of Polokwane Freddy Greaver.
The
new strip will be unveiled when Matsatsantsa host the reigning Premiership
champions Orlando Pirates in a league match at the same venue on Wednesday
night.
Matsatsantsa
wore KAPPA when they won the 2011 Nedbank Cup for the first time, beating
rivals Mamelodi Sundowns 2-nil in Soweto at the end of last season.
“Basically
we are very excited about the new partnership following KAPPA to have one of
the big teams in top flight football around the world. SuperSport United is a
team that can compete. It proved a reason for us to be associated with one of
the big sides in the PSL.
We
as a brand aim to be associated with winners and we want to see SuperSport
fulfilling that role in the South African football arena,” said the KAPPA SA
Brand Manager Ricky Joseph.
KAPPA
people are not coming on board with SuperSport United for the first time. Their
initial partnership with the Tshwane based outfit dates back to the mi-nineties
when they won the Sparletta Cup in 1995.
“Basically
KAPPA was with SuperSport United two decades ago with different owners in SA
and KAPPA has just been taken by new owners in the SA market and to relaunch
the brand as the powerful brand it is. We targeted coming back in the
professional soccer arena,” he concluded.
Kappa
is one of the global leaders and brands in sportswear and they have over the
years sponsored such great football clubs as Barcelona, AC Milan and Juventus
as well as the Italian national team and more recently the likes of Borussia Dortmund
(who have won the German Bundesliga last season), Serie A club, AS Roma, and
Fulham in the English Premier League (EPL).
They
are also global sponsors of important rugby, golf, basketball, rally and
martial arts teams and sportsmen.
