Celebrating passionate female fans at MTN8 semifinal games

Two best dressed female supporters won R16 000 for themselves and charities at MTN8 semifinal 1st leg games.

Female football supporters continued to impress on the stands with their remarkably designed club regalia during the MTN8 1st Leg matches, staying true to the theme of Wafa Wafa, with two selected as the best dressed to be honoured by MTN.

With the quarterfinals and semifinal stages of the 2012 edition of the MTN8 taking place during Woman’s Month, MTN has decided to honour the ladies of the beautiful game with a special competition – Female Fan of the Match.

The ladies of the beautiful game did not disappoint, showing their enthusiastic support for soccer! Passionate female football fans came to the stadiums dressed in spectacular fan regalia to stand a chance to win R8000 in the MTN8 Female Fan of the Match competition, half of which they will share with a charitable organisation of their choice.

“MTN8 is about the passion and the love for football,” says Desiree Pooe, Senior Manager: Sponsorships and Events at MTN SA. “The MTN8 Female Fan of the Match competition celebrates women’s support for soccer in the spirit of Women’s Month while making a difference in the communities we operate in.
MTN female representatives attending the two first leg semifinal matches chose the winners at the two games over the past weekend.

Millicent Modipane became the fifth Female Fan of the Match selected in the first semifinal match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Moroka Swallows on Saturday, 18 August at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe stadium. The football-mad lady from Atteridgeville, who came to the match clad in a smartly home-made yellow dungaree, t-shirt and a bandana to match, has been a Sundowns supporter for 27 years and singles out Esrom Nyandoro as her favourite player at the club.

On Sunday, 19 August, MTN named Maketele Molokomme from Moletjie in Limpopo as the Female Fan of the Match at the SuperSport United versus Orlando Pirates match in Polokwane. The single unemployed youth came to the match sporting a chiffon shirt, skirt and a beret, all in the black and white colours of her beloved Orlando Pirates.

“The Female Fan of the Match competition will continue during the MTN8 2nd Leg semi-finals,” notes Pooe. “MTN SA would like to call on more passionate female supporters to come to the stadiums in large showing their passion for football by wearing spectacular fan regalia,” she concludes.

Fans attending the two MTN8 2nd Leg semifinals can look forward to entertainment experience courtesy of the MTN Yellow Dome which will be set up outside both Orlando and Dobsonville stadiums this weekend. The MTN unit will be kitted with a sound system, a DJ and contain screens, foosball tables and PlayStation consoles.

While inside the Yellow Dome, up to 20 fans that compete and interact on the Spin and Win competition run by roaming promoters will have an opportunity to be in a Y’ello seat with a friend for the one of the two matches to be played this weekend. The winners of the competition will be upgraded to the Y’ello seats with the best view of the pitch and see them served with food and refreshments and receive MTN hampers.
