The
South African Senior Women’s National Team (Banyana Banyana) has been drawn
against hosts Equatorial Guinea in the 8th edition of the African Women’s
Championships set to take place in Equatorial Guinea from the 28 th October –
11 November 2012.
The
draw was released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Tuesday, 17
July 2012.
South
Africa is in Group A along with Equatorial Guinea, Senegal and DR Congo. Group
B consists of Nigeria, Cameroon, Cote d' Ivoire and Ethiopia.
Banyana
Banyana will open their campaign against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, 28
October at the Nouveau Stadium in Malabo.
Kickoff
is 14h30.
The
second match will see South Africa take on Senegal three days later (Wednesday,
31 October) at the Nkoantoma Stadium in Bata, also kicking off at 14h30.
The
final group stage fixture against DR Congo will take place at the Nkoantoma
Stadium on Saturday, 03 November.
The
top four countries will contest the semi-finals on Wednesday, 07 November. The
first one will be played at the Nouveau Stadium at 14h30 with the second taking
place at the Nkoantoma Stadium two hours later.
The
final will be played on Sunday, 11 November at 17h30, but will be preceded by a
third-place play-off which kicks off at 14h30.
Meanwhile,
Banyana Banyana is back in the country following their pre-Olympic preparation
tour of Germany and England.
Banyana
Banyana is now based at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria to conclude the
preparations ahead of their departure for London on Thursday, 19 July.
The
Olympic Games kick off on Wednesday, 25 July and runs through to Thursday, 9
August 2012.
Head
coach of the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana squad is happy with the way things
have gone abroad, despite the 3-1 loss to Great Britain. South Africa defeated
German club Bayer 04 Leverkusen by the same score line in a practice match.
Before
their departure for London, Banyana Banyana, as part of Team SA, will be hosted
to a dinner by Sascoc on Wednesday, 18 July.
