The rejuvenated Dladla continues to shine and another Soweto derby awaits us

Good morning, the last time we spoke was last Monday when I managed to write from the airport, unfortunately my trip to Durban turned out to be a rather busy one and couldn’t do any writing. My apologies for that.
Ok now that we’ve got that out of the way (and you’ve pardoned me), let’s talk about the MTN8. We are through to the MTN8 Final ladies and gents and that should make up for what Manchester United did to Arsenal yesterday (If you are an Arsenal fan). Well not really, but we’ve not made the MTN8 final since 2008 when we last won the competition, so that should count for something.
Saturday was always going to be difficult, playing against a tricky Ajax side in their backyard is never an easy affair. The coach noted from the first leg that we had to be solid at the back, so he brought back our hard man Sweswe in place of Mashamaite and Jambo also came back in place of Ritchie who was said to have complained about his knee earlier on the day.
I didn’t believe the latter (that Ritchie was injured), but that doesn’t matter. Basically Jambo was brought in to deal with Billiat (and his trickery) and he did that very well as he marked him out of the game. Sweswe’s experience also came in handy as he solidified our defense, so those two changes were calculated in my opinion and they paid off. Parker showed some signs of confidence as he put out a decent account of himself, Majoro was top class and Dladla was superb.
The game was evenly balanced, Ajax didn’t give anything away in the first half and their goalkeeper Sean Roberts was the difference between us and them. He made very important saves to deny Nengomasha and Lucky Baloyi’s powerful shots and one must say he deservedly won man of the match.

If there was one person who would have scored in that game, it was Dladla and he did. This young (at heart) man has been in fine form this season and has been on the score sheet every time Chiefs register goals in any match this season. He got us that very important away goal which in the end proved to be the decider as it sent us through to the finals, despite Terror Fanteni’s fine equalizer which locked the scores at 1 – 1 at fulltime. We thank the away goal rule.

Josta Dladla’s return to form
I’ve been praising Josta since the beginning of the season and I don’t think I’m going to stop, as long as he gives me a reason to praise him, I will gladly do so. His sudden return to form has surprised a lot of people and a lot of doubters who had written him off last season. At the age of 32, almost everyone thought Dladla had run his race, but he obviously had other ideas.
He has scored four goals in as many matches and has attributed his fine form to hard work ‘behind closed doors’ (I’m not sure where that is really, but I’m hoping it’s at training). Every goal he’s scored this season has been very vital and last Saturday’s one has put us within reach of the R8 million winners prize chegue for the MTN8. To think that Josta last scored for Amakhosi in the 2009/2010 season when he netted 4 for the season, he’s already equaled his Chiefs best in just four games. Talk about a return to form.
I was also happy to hear that he’s not sour about not being called up to represent South Africa as he said he was used to being overlooked and was fully committed to doing well for Chiefs, who put bread on his table. Watch out for Josta, we have another danger man in our squad and he comes with a lot of experience. Sulute!
Another Soweto Derby
I wasn’t too sure how to react yesterday when Orlando Pirates beat Mamelodi Sundowns on goal difference, because it meant another Soweto Derby, but to be honest, off the last two matches we’ve played against them (Pirates), this is the one that really matters. And besides, as Vlad V always says; ‘to be the best, you have to beat the best’.
Orlando Pirates are the defending champions of this competition and what better way to take the trophy from the defending champions in a final? So as much as I’m getting bored of the Soweto Derby, it’s a final and we have a big score to settle. Beating them in the final will be a great achievement and be sure the game will be one of the most entertaining as we begin operation ‘Dethrone the treble champs’.
The game will take place on the 10th of September 2011, kickoff is at 20:15 and it’s at the FNB Stadium, where we beat them 3 – 0 in the Telkom Knockout final last year.
Right that’s enough for today, interllul is on thee way, so our next game is the MTN8 final then a PSL fixture against Ajax Cape Town again. So buy your tickets earlier than usual, because the final will be a ‘cracker’ as most commentators like to put it.
