Kaizer Chiefs and BidVest Wits rivalry


As we prepare and look forward to tomorrow night's fixture against BidVest Wits, here are some Facts about Kaizer Chiefs and BidVest Wits rivalry:

1. Wits won their first major title in 1978 - winning the Mainstay Cup after beating Kaizer Chiefs in the final of the competition. In 1984, they picked up the BP Top 8, and a year later in 1985 they again beat Chiefs, this time in the final of the JPS Knockout Cup.

2. Chiefs currently have bragging rights after being responsible for Wits loosing their Nedbank title with a convincing 4-0 victory in the second round at BidVest Stadium towards the end of last season. And recently, beating the 2-1 in the MTN 8 Quarter final fixture at Soccer City.

3. Among the top eight teams, Wits has the second worst defensive record of last season’s league campaign with 39 goals conceded.

4. Chiefs snatched their captain and defender, Tefu Mashamaite, on a three-year deal.

5. In head-to-head league stats, Wits and Chiefs have met 50 times in the league since 1985. The Amakhosi have 24 wins with Wits winning 10, while 16 games have been drawn.

6. Wits finished sixth on the log with 40 points from 30 games, managing 10 wins, 10 draws and 10 losses.

7. In terms of head-to-head stats, Amakhosi and the Students have met no less than 25 times in cup competitions since 1985.
Chiefs have won 13 matches, Wits six, and six games have ended in draws.

We therefore, hope to continue with our dominance over the Students at the Slaughterhouse 2moro!
