A goal from Jeffrey Ntuka in the closing stages of the first half gave Kaizer Chiefs the Vodacom Challenge trophy they last won in 2006 when they beat City’s rivals, Manchester United, in the final.
“It was a great game, we are honoured to play two games against Man City in one week, especially when you see the quality of the players they had on the field,” Chiefs' coach Vladimir Vermezovic said.
“This tournament was very important for us, but our work has just begun. This was a good test for us, the main point being that we wanted to build the fitness of our players. But I think the fans enjoyed the experience.”
City manager Mark Hughes was magnanimous in defeat, reiterating that the English Premier League club were delighted with their time in South Africa.
“I would like to congratulate Chiefs, I thought they played exceptionally well today,” Hughes says. “We had quite a lot of possession, but they restricted us to just a few chances and they are worthy winners of the trophy. We wish them well in the coming season.
“For us it has been a fantastic trip, we have made a lot of friends and we have really enjoyed every aspect of your [South African] life. We hope to come back soon.”

mugabe kaizer chiefs is at it again.kaizer wants out of a cup that helps the poor, bling, hungry, cripled, death, dumb and so on. then what is solove and peace about this team if you fail to help the helpless. athletes must just be athletes, soccer is a short career and they must play while they have chance. this proves why we lost against brazil and spain, we are dam freaken lazzy. only one medicine can cure kaizer. the fans are the stomach of the team and we no a team with no fans can go nowhere. let us not be hypocritical, if it were a player faking any reason for not wanting to play that player will be dealt hard with. COSATU is good medicine, stayawy from chiefs games this season. that will drive sense into big heaeded guluva. since he is a chiskop he acts funny. he must go back and grow his hippy hair then he will be alright. i hope it does not have to come to that. they have done it before, they opted out of going to Africa. shame kaizer you still do not have a star on your jersey, all you have is these cup-cup from soweto day cares in your cabinet. come on now get life and go from cape to cairo, madagascar to moroco and bring the horn back home. chief cannot build the stadium they told us yet we did not ask them. they are going back to orlando what a demotion. they are renting Mugabe boys. they have jomos player in their bag. this simply spell bringing the league into disrepute. you will hear non of these from any team but chiefs. it's too early to dream of the league, take one day at a time. i am thinking chiefs is wanting to avoid sundowns. if it were death or anything like that it would be understandable. but kaizer wants out just for rest. so we pay players to rest on our money.anyway, we are not going to bag chiefs to play they are out on their own terms and next time they will play by themselves and they will cheer each other. kaizer chiefs fans have been dealt with a blow and they can now choose any team of their choice that will not let them down. chiefs 4life is now chiefs for sometimes and those sometimes are nearing the END.
ReplyDeletetoo many teams are hungry to sign ex chiefs loyalist and will not rest untill we sign every single one of them. we will not let them down not for a moment. this a real exodus movement of soccer people.
the old man has taken his words back and he is forgiven. winter cold has a tendecy of disturbing the old school. we all know kaizer would dare do that. thanks mr kaizer for recovering speedily, this shows chiefs have good medical staff. they gave Kaizer zumbuck and what a relief it was. we are back into our hay does no stopping us, we have real silver wear not a dear horn from an ambushed poor african animal. where in the world have you ever seen an animal trophy? we at chiefs do civilised trophies not things against enviromental sustanance. come charity cup so we can use sunflower and bake fat cakes with a jar of hot tea. we are to add misery at the sunflowers. you know it's still winter time the sun is not out yet. this winter was so good, i just had a soup and big bones the other day. those bones were not easy to chew but they were very delicious at the end of the meal. if they come my way I will not think twice "finger licking orlando bones", can beat that. next time I might get me a dube bird they are still mouth savoury, I will check with Wandis and see when can he cook me a Dube bird.
