It looks like SABC Sport Presenter Walter Mokoena has yet again gone and put his foot in his mouth after making some very unprofessional comments following Bafana's defeat against Spain last night.
Mokoena who has a history of being 'immature' and unprofessional on National Television, said that Bafana coach Joel Santana should be sacked while also stating that it is time for Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena to go. His parting words last night were:
"Good night and I think we should have a new captain, Aaron Mokoena has never done anything for us, and perhaps after the Confederations Cup a new coach, Joel Santana is not going to take us anywhere.”
While Mokoena may or may not have a point, making such unessesary comments when the whole world is watching is simply unprofessional and immature. He is one of the reasons why many South African soccer fans have stopped watching SABC Sport in favour of the more expensive SuperSport on DSTV.
Mokoena can certainly learn a thing or two from SuperSport presenter Robert Marawa, and the SABC as a whole should look at upgrading their production ahead of the 2010 World Cup because to be brutally honest it's pathetic.
Mokoena is no stranger to controversy though, last year the outspoken presenter was suspended by the National broadcaster after joking about how Brazilian footballer Garrincha lost his virginity to a goat. Mokoena was forced to apologise after the public laid a complaint with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission.
I really hope that the SABC gets some better presenters and improve on their production quality by the time the World Cup kicks off next year.

I personally think Walter should apologies to the public. He is killing the good spirit we have for our national team.He was busy encouraging us to support Bafana Bafana,we did that because it showed when Bafane Bafana played All Whites we set a record of the most viewed program. And to Steve KOmpela thanks for not getting involved in comments of walter, and I liked the way you answered him when he asked that last question.WALTER WE DEMAND AN APPOLOGY AND STOP WHAT YOU DOING WE TIRED WITH THE COOMENTS YOU ALWAYS DO.IF I REMEMBER WELL YOU NOT A SOCCER ANALYST YOU JUST A PRESENTER.
ReplyDeleteI'm utterly disgusted that a football programme host would makes such comments and appear very emotional about it on national television. We urge SABC Sport to either get rid of him or take strong action against him. In my opinion he's become big-headed yet still gives us poor presentations. It's about time the SABC recognises the talent Lindani Mbense has. And maybe SABC Sport to start by comparing the ARs when the Monday show is presented by Mbense or Mokoena, if they decide to keep him. Everytime I see his face on the Monday show I switch to another channel just like most of my friends do, and there could be more of us who do that. Themba Jokozela must also go, nothing both content and the use of the laguage brings any exciting commentary from him. Maybe the SABC should do a viewership survey as some form of a performance evaluation of the commentators.

I agree with what Walter has said-100% ,but not on national television.
ReplyDeleteLive the crocodiles alone, South Africa is not enviromentaly freindly. Every time I turnaround another crocodile has been attacked viciously. First the attacked crocodile Abert Mokoena. Second they went for Aaron Mokoena and now they are poised for attacking Walter Mokoena. Please live the crocodiles alone they are part of creation too just like all of us. A world without crocodiles will be an incomplete world. We are lucky because crocodiles sacrifice the best shoese, belts and coats for our sake.

Walter is the reason we would want to kick our tel sets after those comments... we are all bruised of what transpired it that game(No Doubt) and realistly we can not do jack about it as viewers.. Clearly this guy does not learn from previous unproffesional misconduct,he should be replaced immediately from this program as he is already tarnishing our reputation on national TV! The misplaced optismism i have bout our soccer at this stage serves me well to be proudly south african! Time to Go Walter!
ReplyDeleteI support what Walter said 110%.Go Walter, go...
ReplyDeleteI SUPPORT WALTER MOKOENA'S COMMENT 12O%.
ReplyDeleteWe need people like Walter! People who are realistic and who are not scared to risk their careers for the sake of the truth. Our national coach is very inexperienced when compared to the coaches who are earning the same level of salary like him. Like Walter said, this guy I also believe he is taking us nowhere because everything is about gaining experience for him. We need people with experience not amateurs like Santana.
ReplyDeleteE tluhelang Bakoena, ha Bakoena baka kwata, Ntate utla rumela nwana wa hae ... Jeso utla shisampama. E yantate chech senyaka wa kaka on you tube, then you will realise we need to stop this running stomack with the Bakoenas. Why ostracize the Mokoenas all the time, is it because they have good eduction in the whole wide Mzansi. No jealous does not pay. Either you love the Mkoenas or leave them alone. We pretended we loved Mzwakhe Mbuli, when he got into the deep water instead of save him we stuck his head deep in the water knowing very well he cannot swim. No wonder we cannot get those great things out of him. In the process we chewed Ndhlela as our CEO. We just got to find something to do, perhaps it's the Ndlovus. But the Mokoenas raise no hell when the Njovus go drink water at the river. The Mokoenas aslo do not like staying out in the river all day, Hippo can do that. Youll know you cannot fight the Mkoenas in the river and those who are doing that will be swallowed quickily with one bite. Next time you see one of the Mkoenas looking like a heifer, just know one has been swallowed. Perhaps it's high time SPCA treat all animals equal. No animal shall be abused all the time. All the Koenas will be left alone in peace like all in the barn.

i think walter should sencerely apologise to the masses including the international communinity and get a more harsher punishment from SABC. i think u walter ucabanga ukuthi u SABC u depended kuye but no its like that there are people outside there aba more professional and abanga presenter more than him. he is a disgrace and ungcolisa i image ye south africa kubantu bo mhlaba jikelele.
ReplyDeleteu walter nw uthatha i politiki into i soccer domain, we knw theres i freedom of expression but no uma ephaya u preswenter the entire SABC, maka hambe we seek and tired of his holigan and uncivilised attitudes , ndisamile...frm elasto
Bububhanxa obuphindaphindeneyo ukuthi umele iqumrhu lesizwe i-SABC ube uthetha amanyundululu athatha icala. Izinga lokuziphatha kwakhe uWalter Mokuena likwelona qondo liphantsi. Makagxothwe qha!
ReplyDeleteLets forget about Walter - he is taking us nowhere - he lives in the past. We need to change the Mandela cup format to invite more quality teams. for instance invite German, Holland and Argentina to compete with Bafana.
ReplyDeleteGuys i understand that Mr mokoena have made such kind of a comment and every body is angry about it but lets be real about some of this things and stop running away from the facts he might have said it wrongly by talking on the national tv but the question is, is he wrong i mean lets try to face this issues and we will get solutions i personally think Walter should come back and appologise on tv and get back to his work, he is doing a great job i personally like him he is my role model and a south african who feels pain when our national team losses Unnecessarily. I think we should reveiw the whole foundation of national team from the office(safa) to the coaching team and start getting people like doctor khumalo, shoes moshoeu, neil tovey, lukas radebe, mark williams, eric tinkler, ect i mean they have been there done that for the national team lets give them a try and leave this foreighn coaches, look at what dunga did for brazil he is a brazillian and he is coaching brazil.P.M(Goodluck Walter We miss you.)
ReplyDeleteI doubtlessly agree with walter, santana must go immediatly.walter u r the man,u faced the truth n i guess u wil face the results of it.u r not scared to risk ur career for truth' sake.i miss u boss.all the best ma man
