Luminaries laud Col (Dr.) Khoza

Premier Soccer League (PSL) Chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza was on Wednesday honoured with an inauguration as the newly appointed Honorary Colonel of Logistic Division of the South African national Defence Force (SANDF).

The ceremony, which was preceded by a military parade, took place at the DOD Logistic Support Formation at the army's base in Pretoria.

Below is what some of those present had to say about Colonel (Dr.) Irvin Khoza's appointment:

Tokyo Sexwale - Hon Col SA Air Force and ANC NEC member
The highest honour that your country can give you is to bestow a uniform on you. I come a long way with Col. Khoza and I know the passion and dedication that he has for this country. We have served together in a number of areas from business to the 2006 World Cup Bid Committee and now the 2010 LOC organising the 2010 FIFA World Cup. We have in these endevours worked closely with Nelson Mandela - from whom we received a lot of inspiration. The Defence Force has shown, through this effort that the army is for the people and it is an institution that serves the country.

Prof. R. Schloss - COO PSL
This is a well deserved honour in recognition of the service that he has given to football. Finally he gets the recognition for the efforts and dedication that he has given to the country. It is also an honour for the game in general that one of its leaders is given this stature.

Dr Leepile Taunyane - Life President PSL
It is indeed a great honour for him and for football in the country. I congragulate the Defence Force for selecting a cvilian for such an honorary position - this can only build closer ties between the army and society in general.

Ronnie Ntuli - Chairman National Empowerment Fund
It is the mark of the outstanding work that he has done over the years. I think that the parralel analogy he made between sport and the army in terms of discipline, patriotism and character was impressive. These are the values that we, as young South Africans need to reinculcate back in our psyche. On a personal level I think he has done an incredible job. It was a great ocaassion for a great purpose.

Stan 'Screamer' Tshabalala - SA Football Association (SAFA)
"This is the result of hard work and selflessnes over the years. He has done a lot for football and for South Africa. I am happy for him and we support him in his endevour to assist the army's football teams as well.
